International Laughter Day

The International Day of Laughter is celebrated on January 18th. This day draws attention to the importance of laughing.

Nowadays in the society we live in, people are constantly receiving information, acting in a rational, logical and critical way, using the left hemisphere of the brain. They are always aware and aware of how to act or react to a given situation.

When we laugh, we activate the right hemisphere of the brain, which has to do with the creative part, with imagination, intuition, randomness. In this way, it is possible to create an emotional liberation by finding a balance between the logic and creativity of each one.

A study was carried out that proved that a person should laugh for 10 minutes a day. The explanation they found was because the body needs 10 minutes for the brain to activate, through laughter, and start releasing positive chemicals, such as serotonin and endorphins, which make us feel good. It also brings down cortisol, which is the stress hormone. So, from this daily practice, we are able to put the brain in a positive state and our organism works better.

So laughter addresses numerous benefits at all levels for our health, which are:

  • Stress reduction;
  • Burns calories;
  • Improves sleep quality;
  • Abdominal strengthening;
  • Combats the appearance of wrinkles;
  • Improves blood circulation;
  • Improves breathing;
  • Improves digestion;
  • Strengthens the immune system.

On this international day of laughter, you should laugh as much as you can, either in the company of friends or family, exchanging anecdotes and funny episodes, or alone, at home watching your favorite comedies or reading a funny book. On this day, the most important thing is to laugh and be happy.
