World Health Day

This day was created by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948 due to the concern of its members to maintain the good state of health of people around the world and also to warn about the main problems that can affect the world population. Officially, World Health Day has been celebrated on April 7 since 1950. According to the concept defined by the WHO “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

Annually, World Health Day is intended to discuss a specific topic, which represents a priority on the WHO's international agenda. From this choice, awareness-raising work arises, which aim to progressively improve the factors that determine a healthy life and bring information to the population.

This year's theme is “Building a fairer and healthier world”. This day is an opportunity to communicate about the importance of equity in health services, not just for the health of individuals. But also for the health of economies and society as a whole.

Health workers play a key role in ensuring the health and well-being of the entire population. This year, they have shown extreme dedication, sacrifice and commitment not only to doing this work but also to defeating the pandemic.

As highlighted by COVID-19, some people are able to live with better access to health services than others because of their conditions.

Around the world, some groups struggle to survive with all the expenses they have, but with fewer employment opportunities, suffering greater inequality in some respects.

For this reason, the choice of this year's theme is based on the premise of combating inequalities and difficulties that different peoples have in accessing basic health care.
